Dog Health Care: Choking

August 8th, 2008

A dog that is choking may breathe loudly, drool, paw at their mouth, cough, gag, become anxious, or faint. To assist your dog some dog health care knowledge can be lifesaving.

If you suspect your dog is choking, gently open your dog’s mouth to locate and manually remove the object. If your dog isn’t breathing and ou can’t find what is obstructing his windpipe, perform a modified Heimlich maneuver. With your dog facing away from you, clasp your hands around his waist, just beneath the rib cage. Compress the abdomen three to five times with quick upward thrusts. Repeat as necessary. If that doesn’t work, take your dog to the veterinarian.

is I am a Mother of two dogs and three children. Our dogs are an important part of our family. I take care in feeding my dogs a healthful well-balanced meal just as I do for my family. I must admit the treats my dogs receive are definitely more nutritious than the treats my children get. Oh well, we can't be perfect! I enjoy sharing my great tips about nutrition and health with other caregivers of dogs and want to hear about how my ramblings affect you and your companions.
