Sorry to hear about the misery your dog is experiencing. I rely on natural products to get my dogs through health concerns that are not completely managed by feeding them a high quality diet. My favorite resource is a company called "Only Natural Pet" this address will get you there: http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/?Click=6875

The items I suggest you read about are listed below. I believe one of these will fit the needs of your dog. Let me know what you choose and how it works for your golden. Other readers may be experiencing similar problems and I always like to share solutions!

* Only Natural Pet Herbal Skin Ointment
    * FidoDerm Herbal Spray
    * Doc Ackerman's Instant Hot Spot Relief Spray
    * Liquid Hot Spot Remedy (essential oils)
    * Oatmeal Baths followed by conditioner to seal in moisture

Hello, I have been using the ear infection formula for yeasr in fection for yrs. now and none of the goldens that I have owed have after my first ever gotten an infection. I use to have to take my first golden to the vet to get panalog(18.00) and pay a vet appt fee of 25.00 every month.

I was wondering if you knew of anything that would treat shin problems. All of my goldens have had what they call the Tidewater Itch(I live in Norfolk, VA). I believe it is either an inhalent allergy or just from being out in the backyard rolling around in the grass and what ever else is growing out there. Though he is an inside dog. This only occures duriing the spring/summer months. I do not want to put him on steroids and I have used benedryl but it doesn't help. I am using omega 3 in his food and rubbing on a hydrocortizone cream thatI did buy from my vet office but it is very costly! He has had several hot spots that I have managed to clear up but he still chews constantly and is loosing alot of his fur especially underneath and his tail is very thin. He just doesn't look the way a golden should look! I also wanted to know if I could use an aleo vera spray or gold bond powder? My vet refuses to give me any info. without seeing him but like I said I have had 4 goldens and they have all haad the same skin and ear problems and everything the vets have ever given doesn't work! I do not feel it to be necessary to spend a fortune on all the test they want to do when i know what the problem is. Please know that I am not trying to be sarcastic in what I just stated and excuse me for being so frank with what I am about to write but to me it isn't any different than a Dr. wanted to see a female for a yeast infection when she knows better than the Dr what she's got even though I know you no longer have to be seen and be given a prescription.

I look forward to your reply and I thank you for your time,

Sincerely,

Norma Seay

Excellent idea of Barb's for the small dogs. I just wish something like that would work on Golden Retrievers! ;o)

I am not sure that I can completely understand your comments. Would you be so kind as to expand on your reasoning a little more before I comment.

My dog has floppy ears and he's always had trouble with his ears. Lucky that we don't have a lake for him to swim in whenever he wants to.

I agree, we dog owners should make it a habit to keep their ears clean and free from infections. I've how horrible a deep-seated ear infection can get. Likewise, I'd like to share the use of pet herbal supplements for the treatment of recurrent canine ear infections. Formulated from herbs such as the Rosemary and Marigold, pet herbals worked well on many infected dogs without producing harmful side effects.

Thank you, Barb, for the fantastic idea. This is a great solution for tiny to small dogs. It sounds like the sock would be much more comfortable than the plastic around the dog's neck and keep them from aggravating a wound.
